POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Group Benefits Producer will work with an established group of commercial clients and recruit new group benefits clients. They will identify and present the best product options to serve existing and potential commercial clients. The Group Benefits Producer will partner with the account manager and carrier teams to deliver high quality service and manage all policy renewals in their book of business. Success in this role will come from developing and maintaining a strong network of positive relationships with clients, co-owners, carrier partners and the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Understand key business issues facing commercial clients and the value employee group benefits play in supporting their business.
  2. Manage large existing book of business and grow new business by achieving annual new business targets.
  3. Meet with prospective clients, identify and document needs, provide advice, and present strong recommendations and proposals. Travel will be required for client visits.
  4. Partner with the Account Manager team and carriers to provide top quality service to clients. Provide timely resolution to any service issues to ensure client satisfaction. Being responsive to clients and setting and communicating expectations is critical in this role.
  5. Conduct annual account reviews with clients to include plan design, claim trends, new legal requirements and existing products offered. Identify and present new products to clients as their needs evolve and markets shift. Facilitate strategic planning meeting with key clients every 2-3 years to establish goals, set priorities and to identify areas of concern.
  6. Manage the renewal process for all existing accounts. Review market conditions and establish a marketing strategy for clients to ensure clients are getting the best price and proactively advocate for clients.
  7. Follow established policies and procedures.
  8. Collaborate with the other lines of business to identify mutually beneficial cross sell opportunities that can benefit both the client and Allen.
  9. Stay current on legislative changes and educate clients as needed.
  10. Complete required education to maintain licensing and credentials and to grow overall product and industry knowledge.
  11. On key accounts complete financial underwriting and claims analysis, including renewal analysis and negotiations, budget projections, funding levels and alternatives, large claims analysis and as-needed reporting of clients’ financial performance.
  12. Document all material conversations with insureds and/or carriers regarding exposures and coverages in Applied Epic agency management system.
  13. Build positive working relationships with the CL Producers to ensure you are servicing mutual clients in a consistent way. Coordinate annual holiday gifts with Commercial Lines to avoid duplication.
  14. Submit commission sheets monthly to SVP of Business Development and HR on established template and by deadlines set by HR.

Work is performed primarily in an open office setting with varying noise levels.  It is a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and requires frequent in-state, and occasional out-of-state travel.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION: 

Experience and Skill Requirements: The following experience and skills are considered essential:

  • 3 to 5 years of prior experience in employee benefits sales and service strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Benefit plans and/or administering company benefit programs.
  • Eligible for appointments by carriers.
  • Proven history of strong sales performance.
  • Assertive self-starter with the ability to influence others through demonstrated, effective communication skills, including active listening and strong verbal and written presentation skills.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Ability to use a laptop, agency management systems and various software programs, including Adobe, Zywave, Dynamis, Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams and Excel.
  • Ability to perform with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
  • Valid Maine Driver’s License.

Education Requirements: The following education requirements are considered essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, not required.
  • Health and Life Producers license, and any other licenses to discuss or place insurance as required by the State Department of Insurance in states where the agency functions.
